the only reason you would switch to the dark side is because of the superior handling of High ISO. Far better than what the current A100 is giving you. Anyway, i find it hard to believe you would abandon your current lense mount format just to switch to another brand. Gonna be costly.:P
Btw, can u give me the prices you paid for the minolta and tamron lenses you bought?
On my list is 1. Nikkor 50/f1.8 (rm380) 2. Nikkor 70-300VR/f4.5-5.6 (rm1850)(thought the aperture is not so exciting) 3. sigma 150/f2.8 Macro (rm 2350)
1) Minolta 50/1.7 mint - USD65 including delivery (approx. RM250)
2) Minolta 70-210/4 mint - GBP85 (approx. RM600+)
3) Tamron 90/2.8 new - RM1,380 Keycolor Mid Valley
Told u many times already, get the 50mm, u'll love it for that price.
See the Nikon VR lens is so expensive, I bought the Sony 75-300/4.5-5.6 for less than RM1k but sold it later coz of the aperture range. Btw it did performed well with the built-in stabilizer.
For the macro lens, I suggest u get the Tamron 90SP, it's a fine model since the non digital age and I really like the sharpness. IMO 90mm is more practical than 150mm for macro function. Btw I use it more for portrait rather than macro shots.

at 5k, this is highly affordable man.. will give the D300 a run for it..
btw, what are the 4 lenses you are using now?
I hope this is selling below Canon 40D, or else I might switch to the white side.
My current line up:
Sony 18-70/F3.5-5.6
Minolta 50/F1.7
Minolta 70-210/F4
Tamron 90/F2.8 Macro
Going to get a Tamron 17-50/F2.8 when I go back in December. Let me play your D80 and see if it changes my mind for the dark side.

I think Canon performs better at high ISO.

It's possible to switch. I will not lose much money on the lens selling it in UK.
